Keeping your summer tan longer

Many of us love that golden summer glow we get under the summer sun.  By now, if you've been careful, you've built up a nice, even tan for your face and body.

But Fall is around the corner, and I have some skin care tips on caring for your suntan so it not only lasts longer but looks fresher, more even, less patchy.

Cooler water temps

No hot showers or hot water on your face.  This dehydrates skin so it makes your tan look patchy and dull.

Exfoliate

Yes!  What makes your skin tan is deeper in your skin, so exfoliating will actually help your skin look glow-y and hold moisture better.

Top pick: Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant - has lactic acid for hydration.  Just make a paste and gently exfoliate, rinse and apply moisture.

Moisturize

Everyone wants a smooth, supple, glowing, even tan - so you'll need to moisturize.  The best way to make moisturizing the most impactful is to apply moisturizer over damp skin.  We want to seal in the water, and the moisturizer will help in this process.

I recommend body oils and hyaluronic acid to help moisturize your skin post-tanning.  It is also best to avoid brightening ingredients which can fade your tan faster.

Top picks:  Eminence Organic Skin Care's

Apricot Body Oil (amazing scent and will keep your tan glowing longer) and

Firm Skin Moisturizer for your face if on the drier side, or

Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum if oily or acne prone.  Both Firm Skin and Strawberry Serum have hyaluronic acid to keep your tan hydrated.

Hydrate Internally

As always, you'll need to keep your water intake at about half your body weight in ounces.  Avoid alcohol and caffeine, and make sure to eat plenty of those gorgeous summer fruits and vegetables.

Prevent or Slow Peeling

Nothing looks more unsightly than a peeling tan.  Certainly follow the steps above, but also consider a treatment mask to prevent or slow peeling.

The masks I recommend are quite concentrated, which means a little goes a long way, making it cost effective to treat your body using a mask (as well as your face.  Dispense a small amount and emulsify with water.  Apply after exfoliation and while skin is still damp.  Applied properly, you can sleep in this treatment mask.

Top Picks: Eminence Organic Skin Care Firm Skin Masque or if oily/acne-prone use Strawberry Rhubarb Masque.

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and take care of that tan with these simple tips!
